Welcome to Sona, a voice-first journal and diary app that turns your spoken words into beautiful, first-person journal entries, tracks your moods, and gently reflects your patterns and growth back to you. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Sona ("Service") on Android devices. By using Sona, you agree to this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide: Voice recordings you speak into the app, journal entries (voice or text), mood selections, tags, answers to guided journeys/prompts, questions you ask your journal, and feedback you submit through the app.
Automatically Collected Information: Device type, operating system, app version, usage statistics, feature interactions (e.g. voice journaling, mood tracking, Year in Pixels, streaks), crash logs, approximate location (country-level), IP address, and analytics data.
Generated Content: Transcriptions of your voice entries, AI-written journal entries, mood insights, gentle reflections, and answers generated when you ask your journal a question.
Payment Information: Subscription and in-app purchase data are handled securely by Google Play. We do not store credit card or payment details.

2. How We Use Your Information

To turn your spoken words into written, first-person journal entries in your own voice and language.
To track and visualize your moods over time, including daily, weekly, and Year in Pixels views.
To generate gentle, honest reflections and insights after each entry.
To power "Ask your journal," so you can search and get answers from your own past entries.
To support streaks, guided journeys, and reminders that help you build a daily journaling habit.
To improve transcription accuracy, reflection quality, and overall app performance.
To manage subscriptions, usage limits, and premium features.
To display ads in the free version of the app (ads are removed with Sona Premium).

3. Voice & Journal Data Handling

Voice recordings are processed only to deliver requested features (transcription, journal-entry generation, mood analysis, reflections).
Recordings and journal entries may be stored so you can review, edit, and revisit past entries.
We do not use your journal content or voice recordings to identify you personally.
We do not sell or share your voice recordings or journal entries for advertising purposes.
Your journal is private by design — entries are only accessible to you within your account.

4. Third-Party Services

Sona integrates trusted third-party services to operate efficiently:

Speech Recognition Providers — Used to convert your voice recordings into text. Data is processed securely and anonymized where possible.
AI Language Models — Used to turn transcriptions into first-person journal entries, generate mood insights, gentle reflections, and answer questions about your journal.
Google Play Services — Used for app distribution, in-app purchases, and subscription management. Privacy Policy
Analytics Services (e.g. Firebase) — Collect anonymized usage data to improve stability and user experience. Privacy Policy
Advertising Services (e.g. Google AdMob) — Used to display ads in the free version of the app. These services may collect device identifiers (such as the Advertising ID) to serve ads. Privacy Policy

Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy.

5. Data Storage and Security

All data is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard security measures.
Your voice recordings, journal entries, and mood data are stored only as long as necessary for functionality, or until you delete them.
You can delete individual entries, your mood history, or your entire account at any time.
We regularly review and update our security practices.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Access & Deletion: View or delete your journal entries and account data directly in the app or by contacting us.
Language Control: Choose the language Sona uses to write and reflect on your entries.
Subscription Control: Manage or cancel your Sona Premium subscription anytime via the Google Play Store (Menu → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions).
Microphone Permissions: You can disable microphone access at any time in your device settings.
Advertising Choices: You can reset or delete your Advertising ID at any time in your Android device settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads).

A note on wellbeing: Sona is a private space to hear yourself think and track your moods over time. Sona isn't therapy and doesn't replace professional mental health care. If you're struggling, please reach out to a licensed professional or a crisis helpline in your area.

7. Children's Privacy

Sona is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If such data is discovered, it will be deleted promptly.

8. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed on secure servers located in different countries. We comply with applicable data protection regulations, including GDPR and similar laws.

9. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect new features or legal requirements. Any changes will be posted here with an updated "Last Updated" date.
